She had hunkered down some inches to avoid being eyed by any excluded wolves even though she assured herself there was enough distance between her and this group of wolves for her to remain under the radar. Faint continuous guilt poked at her gut and told her that she shouldn't be interfering in their business, but at the same time, she told herself she was doing no harm, and a matter of fact hadn't even a clue as to what they were even discussing. It did intrigue her though, but she held herself from venturing any closer for worry that she would be caught.
Quartz's gaze remained vigilant on the area before her, scanning back and forth for any signs of movement. It had almost appeared that the coast was clear for her to move onward; that she hadn't been noticed by any of the wolves. Just as she made a single step forward, a call sounded out, and it seemed to have been addressed right at her. She snapped her head in the direction of the greeting only to see another wolf approach from where she presumed the group of other wolves was gathered. She halted immediately as some adrenaline began flooding her veins, half from startlement and half from panic. She maintained outward composure, examining the male as he kept a supposedly affable demeanor. He looked decent enough; Quartz couldn't detect even an ounce of aggression on him. In fact, he didn't even seem fazed by her sudden appearance.
"You might want to turn tail if you don't like drama. These guys are going at it like rabid cats. And we all only just met." he warned, scratching at his belly. She lifted her brow. This puzzled her. And somewhat disappointed her, but she wouldn't let that disapproval show through. Before she could manage a response, a second wolf popped up. Again, her alarm meter rose, and the worry over if more would show up began to push her closer to the edge. ”Yeah, no kidding. It took half a second before the big guy started getting his tail in a twist. All over, what? Some guy who can’t come up with anything worse than calling him a ‘burnt marshmallow,’ whatever the hell that is,” this time, a female chimed in. She was rougher looking with dark-colored fur and eyes that rivaled that of a full moon. Her wild and puffed mane only added to her gangly appearance.
The situation amused Quartz almost. Not just her's but the one the female described; the one she had been eavesdropping on earlier. It kind of amazed her how quickly someone could be set off over the smallest or stupidest of things. It erupted a soft huff from her nose. Petty.
”The name’s Nyx, by the way. Can I get yours?” That caught Quartz off guard. She gazed at the female, eyes held ever so slightly below her's—a technique she had picked up on as a way to avoid direct eye contact without coming off as impolite, despite the faint churn of annoyance in the pit of her stomach from the other female's straightforwardness. But she made sure to keep that in check. "Quartz," she rasped distinctly, firmly.
