~12 moons ago~
All was silent in the long-forgotten Lavender Falls, located next to the Grassy Plains in Yellowstone National Park. The sun was just coming up over the treeline, and the plains were just beginning to rustle with life. Suddenly, a chorus of snarls erupted form the large cave-like den in Lavender Falls. Once the snarls had sent the ravens to the dawn skies, a black and silvery grey fae shot out of the treeline, and she was followed by another black and silverish grey fae, both barely reaching 12 moons old.
“Keep running, Fenway!” the black and silver fae shouted as she whirled around to face the cave. “What? Ghost! No!” Fenway shouted, sheer terror erupting from her voice as a snarl was erupting from her sister’s maw. Ghost seemed to pay her sister no mind as she dug her claws into the earth, her breath leaving a smoky trail up toward the rising sun. Fenway watched the trail of her sister’s breath, and she closed her eyes as Ghost howled ferociously. Running through the Grassy Plains, poor Fenway was found shaking like a fallen leaf under a thick bush by a passing patrol, and she was taken in due to the kindness of the Alpha there, whose name was Patriot. As for Ghost, she fought valiantly, but to no avail as she was killed saving her sister’s life.
Once she had recovered from her traumatic experience, Fenway was adopted by Patriot and his mate, Sox, and they trained her to fight for herself and her new family. It was not long after that Sox passed away in battle, and this trauma caused Fenway to change. During this change, she changed her name to Boston, and her personality changed her from the timid pup she was into a fierce, strong wolf that others in her pack looked up to.
~Present Day~
Boston paced the camp of the Grassy Plains pack, casting anxious glances at the Alpha’s den. As she paced, her closest friend Kendall walked up to her. “Hey, how is Patriot doing?” she asked nervously. “I don’t know, Bandit won’t tell me,” she replied. As she spoke, Bandit, the Beta Male, padded out of the den and motioned to Boston with his tail. “Excuse me, Kendall.” Nodding to her friend, she padded over to the Beta and dipped her head. “Bandit. How is he?” she asked. “Follow me,” Bandit replied, averting his icy blue gaze. Flattening her ears, Boston padded into the den, and curled her lip at the overwhelming scent of sickness in the den. “Boston…” a raspy voice called out to her. “Yes?” she asked, her voice dripping with sadness.
Before she could step forward, Bandit blocked her path. “I must tell you, his lungs are filled with mucus, and he will not make it through the night. He wished for me to tell you this,” the Beta Male told her in a soft tone. She nodded to Bandit, then padded to her foster father. “What is it, Patriot?” she asked him sadly. “There is something I must tell you. Come closer, child,” he replied raspily. Once she bent closer, he whispered, “Bandit will not be the only Alpha. There is something you need to know. When we went to battle, we fought the Lavender Falls pack. When we defeated their Alphas, the pack surrendered, and they requested you to be their new Alpha if I were to die.”
As she heard this news, Boston’s amber eyes widened and she asked, “What? What does this mean?” Patriot chuckled before letting out a cough. “You are going home, child. Your destiny awaits.” Boston sat up, her eyes a glassy amber. She looked down at Patriot as he took his last breath. “Rest easy, my friend,” she said, her voice dripping in grief. When she looked up, her expression was changed; she was renewed, her eyes burning like an amber fire. “If this is my destiny, then I shall be ready.”
