Physique: At first glance, Farran is a large wolf, incredibly tall and long-legged. Due to his thick, long coat, he appears very bulky and robust, but is much slimmer and lankier than he initially appears with his slender limbs and waist. Though he is slim, he possesses a great deal of lean muscle and is quite athletic. His upper body has a bit more heft to it, with his barrel chest, strong shoulders, and robust neck. Though tall and lean, he remains sturdy and strong. His tail is a bit longer than average, though not disproportionate, providing better balance as he runs.
He inherited the same strong features as his father and his father before him, but is a bit softer-featured, with his somewhat large, straight muzzle, strong chin, and powerful jaw muscles. His ears are on the larger side, often tipped forward and drooping just slightly.
Fur: Farran's thick coat is long and flowing, a bit messy and scruffy with a few bits sticking up here and there, like near his ears, but still relatively soft. If he wasn't so large, he'd almost be buried in his fur, especially with his dense, lion-like mane. His mane drapes down from his neck and chest, sticking up a bit towards the top near his head and back of his neck but weighed down by its sheer length. The fur on his neck falls forward, hanging over his face.
The base of his coat is a medium-dark grey, marking his flanks, thighs, and temples, with darker fur characterizing the middle of his forehead and lighter silver dusting the backs of his thighs. He wears a rich brown facial mask, darker along the bridge of his snout and lighter around his eyes. The underside of the mask is lined with black, running down the sides of his cheeks and outlining his pale cream underfur. The same white-cream dots his brows. His dark brown ears are rimmed with black.
Farran's mane is primarily brown along the sides, the hairs tipped with black until it fully darkens to black on his nape. His shoulders are dark brown, fading into a lighter brown further down his legs until it reaches his white toes. His cape is layered with the same dark brown of his shoulders, edged with black, then white, then finally black. His tail is mostly dark brown, blacker on the underside and towards the tip, with black-tipped hairs.
Eyes: Naturally a little almond-shaped but softer on the edges. His bright orange-gold gaze is warm and gentle, with a fierce spark of courage. Even he burns with rage, there is still a softness in his stare.
Imperfections: Old scars mark his hide from all the scraps he'd gotten into while he wandered, but none are visible, hidden by his long fur. More notable is the weak cartilage in his ears, causing them to tip forward, and the mild gigantism he inherited from his father's side.
Strengths:
Strong: Thanks to his heritage, Farran is very strong and fit. He's not bulky, having a more lean and svelte figure, but still very capable. He knows how to use this strength to his advantage fairly well—while he's not the most experienced fighter and doesn't have any noteworthy tactics, he's been in his fair share of fights after having lived as a loner since he was just under a year old. Along with his physical strength, Farran also has a strong constitution and is very healthy.
Empathetic: He has a deeply sensitive and emotional nature and is strongly empathetic towards others—he picks up easily on the vibes of a situation or environment and has a talent for reading others' emotions. He feels deeply for those around him and it fuels his strong sense of justice and his desire to help others and to try to do the right thing.
Persistent: Farran is determined in his pursuits. Some might even say he's stubborn. Once he has his mind set to something, he's going to do it no matter what, or he'll die trying.
Resourceful: Farran knows how to survive with what he's got available to him. He has a good nose on him and often uses his environment to his advantage if he finds himself in a sticky situation.
Weaknesses:
Hot-tempered: The boy has a little bit of fire in him. While he can be friendly and kind, he can just as easily be foul, bitter, snarky, and rude, especially when someone's ticked him off enough. With his emotions running as deep as they do, it's incredibly easy for him to lose his temper. In the past, it's led him to doing things he'd rather not have done, so he tries to keep it under control, but sometimes he just can't help but explode.
Impulsive: Driven so strongly by his emotions and whims, Farran doesn't think rationally before he makes his move. He just does whatever just feels right to him in that moment, but much of the time it ended up being the wrong thing, because it got him into trouble or someone got hurt.
Sensitive: The downside to his emotional and empathetic nature is his sensitivity. Farran finds that his feelings are hurt easily by little comments and jabs. He tries not to let it get to him, especially if he knows it isn't serious, but he still can't help but feel hurt. The smallest things can bring about a massive shift in mood for him.
Tactless: Farran doesn't always know how to talk to wolves. His words are abrupt, almost too straight-forward and he tends to say things without really thinking about it. He often forgets his manners and can easily come off as rude.
Mental Characteristics
Farran is a confident and spirited young man who carries himself well. Upon first meeting, he is often a bit reserved and brusque until he figures out what to make of the other wolf. For most, he warms up quickly. He is good-natured, friendly, and well-humored with a gentle warmth to his demeanor that makes him easy to get along with. He's innately kind and always eager to help those in need, and once he's decided someone is his friend, he'll do anything for them and is known to be extremely protective.
However, there are some wolves Farran is instantly cold and distrusting of. His instincts are extremely strong and he can feel it in his gut if something isn't right about someone. It's tough to deal with sometimes because half of the time he has no idea what is wrong exactly and he doesn't have any concrete evidence to explain himself, but when he gets that feeling when he's around someone, he knows to be wary.
Even when he walls himself off to those that let off these bad vibes, Farran will still try to offer his kindness... until it's proven that the other wolf doesn't deserve it. He has a powerful sense of justice, so when someone is a bad person, who hurts other people... he's not going to tolerate it and he won't let them get away with it. He's going to take a stand and do something and he doesn't care how dangerous it is. "I’d rather die knowing I tried to do the right thing than live knowing I could have done something, but didn’t," he would say.
Though Farran will gladly fight someone in retaliation for their crimes, he would never stoop to their level and stops as soon as it's enough, as soon as the other wolf doesn't have the will to fight anymore. He is merciful and believes that everyone should get a second chance... even scum. Perhaps he can be too forgiving and too quick to give a second, third, and fourth chance, even when he knows deep down he shouldn't. He wants to believe they will change even if they won't, and it's easy to play to his emotions and idealism.
Farran is a very sensitive and emotional person and it's obvious. He tries to guard his feelings and keep them hidden, but he's just not the sort who can really hide how he feels. Just a look in his eyes reveals it all. Perhaps the most obvious emotion he expresses most readily is his anger. Farran's temper runs hot and is explosive, even violent at times. Combined with his lack of self control, he's quick to snap and act irrationally when his emotions run high.
Farran is very curious and thoughtful, observant of his surroundings, taking in what's around him, and always willing to learn new things. He's inquisitive and it seems as if he always has a question on his mind. "The one who asks the most questions learns the most," they say.
Likes:
> Running
> Taking a nice long nap up on a high rock with the sun shining on his fur
> Snow
> Water. Farran loves to swim and he feels great when he's relaxing near a lake on a warm summer day... swimming makes summer actually pretty good. There's lots of great things to catch by the water too.
> Autumn is his favorite season. He's a sucker for all the colors and when he was a kid, he loved playing in the leaves. He still loves playing in the leaves.
> Fish is his favorite food, especially salmon. It's even better when it's full of roe.
Dislikes:
> Unnecessary fighting; it really gets on his nerves when wolves are too quick to fight everyone and start trouble for no good reason. He hates killing too.
> Cockiness and arrogance
> Summer heat. Even after shedding his fur, he's still not much of a fan of hot weather.
> Bone marrow tastes pretty disgusting to him, so he tends to not chew bones and he definitely doesn't crack them.
> Dishonesty
> Bears. He's not as frightened of them as he once was and could defend himself from one if he needed to, but he'd rather stay far out of their way.
> Bullies
> Cowardice. Farran can't stand it when a wolf lets fear stop them from taking action and doing the right thing.

History
It began with Farran's father: Riordan, the oldest of Shadow King Donovan and his Queen Echo's third litter. Riordan's early childhood was a confusing and difficult time, with his Echo often deliberately trying to keep him and his siblings away from his father, but to no avail. Donovan cared little for Riordan's siblings, focusing all his attention on Riordan, the heir to his empire. He learned from Donovan his place in the world, the legacy he was to inherit, the power he would grow into. Donovan also taught him violence and cruelty and had no reservations about showing Riordan this cruelty personally. Riordan quickly learned to obey Donovan and not to cross him, and he loved and hated his father. He tended to stay closer with his mother, for she treated him gently and lovingly. Her lessons were of respect and honor, rather than brutality and domination. Echo was the only thing keeping Riordan from falling fully into the same dark path Donovan walked. But even her love was not enough.
As he grew older, he became more isolated, focused solely on his training, on becoming strong enough to kill Donovan and take his throne. He could not stand living under his father's rulership anymore. He couldn't stand seeing how his father treated his mother and siblings. When he reached adulthood and came of age, Riordan knew it was time. His father was old now, already past his prime at eight years old. With his once-black fur now mostly grey, and his hips now aching and fragile, it seemed even a giant murderous beast like Donovan was mortal. Riordan came nowhere close to Donovan's hulking size, but he was young, strong, and fit. He was skilled, trained by the old Shadow King himself and familiar with all his techniques. So Riordan challenged Donovan. Even in his aging state, Donovan put up a formidable challenge, even scaring his son's face, but a well-placed bodyslam broke his old, brittle hip and brought him down. It wasn't long after that Riordan made short work of his father.
With that, Riordan was the new king and he swore he would lead this pack far better than Donovan ever did. Donovan's Tyranny was over, giving way to a new era. An era of prosperity and fair treatment. Though Riordan was not a gentle king, he was never abusive. He never used force against any of his pack members.
Things were peaceful and calm until a band of travelling arctic wolves were found at the northern edges of the territory. When confronted, the leader of the group, an older male called Baldur, explained that his pack had been driven out of their territory, that they were forced to come south. Feeling sympathy for this pack, he allowed them to stay in his territory. Among them was a beautiful she-wolf with silky white fur called Larka. Riordan courted her, and come autumn, they were mates. As a result of the union, her pack decided to merge permanently with Riordan's.
The two of them bore a litter of pups the coming year—three males and two females. Their firstborn, they called Farran, and the rest were called Ardan, Morrigan, Rhiannon, and Tadgh. As firstborn, Farran was Riordan's heir and would be taught and trained as an heir. However, Farran was inattentive, disinterested, and would rather wander off on his own. It frustrated Riordan that his son, his heir would be so fickle and hard to grab a hold of, even when he was right there in front of him. But he continued to make an effort. He thought, maybe Farran was simply too young. He was only eight weeks old at the beginning of his lessons. So Riordan allowed the boy a few more months before continuing.
When Farran was three months old, a massive black wolf entered their territory. Riordan fought with the male and was taken down, defeated but not brutally injured, simply pressed down with a couple of massive paws. Their warriors jumped in to defend their king, but the old queen Echo stopped them. She somehow recognized this male, as her missing son, Blythe. This male recognized her as well. Riordan was in shock, barely aware of his mother's previous litters, but he reluctantly accepted his older brother and allowed him to stay with their pack. Farran was immediately curious about his uncle, having never seen such a massive wolf before. He thought his father was large, but his uncle was a giant. He ended up spending much time around his uncle and enjoying his presence. Uncle Blythe was often rather cold and rough with Farran, but Farran liked him anyway.
Blythe slowly warmed up to Farran however, and soon the two were close. But just two months later, Blythe left. Farran tried to go with him but Blythe pushed him away and his parents wouldn't let him go. Farran was saddened by his uncle's departure, but he at least had his grandmother to comfort him. Not long after Blythe had left, Riordan restarted Farran's lessons. Not much changed from the first time, though Riordan was able to get to Farran more easily now that he was old enough to understand better, but Farran had no desire to lead. He wanted to travel the world like Blythe. He wanted to find him out there. He couldn't stand the pressures of being his father's son.
At just eight months old, Farran couldn't deal with the stress of being an heir. He didn't want to be a king. He didn't want the happiness and safety of all these wolves to rest on his shoulders. So he ran away and became a loner.
It was a terrible decision. Being a loner proved to be tough and treacherous. Though he had begun hunting with the pack, he struggled to catch prey, lacking in experience and technique and not being able to rely on teamwork anymore. He had to learn to scavenge and to scavenge well. It was tough, but he got by decently. It was hard being a growing pup and starving alone in the wild though. After a couple of months of living that way, when he was just shy of a year old, he met a small band of wolves, just four adults travelling along a vast river. One arrogant male didn't get along with the rest of the group, his cocky attitude grating on everybody's, including Farran's nerves. After travelling with him for a couple of days, he and Farran got in a nasty fight and the male left.
It was hard being short one wolf, but the group was better for it. There was a lot less fighting and arguing, even if that one large female was pretty bad-tempered and aggressive. She could still get along with Farran and the others without any trouble. Farran was rather close with the female, as she had a soft spot for kids, and she would train him and help him become a strong fighter.
Their small group stuck together for several months, until everybody decided it was time to go their separate ways. Farran stuck with his mentor, but the other female in their group found a mate and left with him, and the other male was simply ready to move on and find another pack. Farran and his mentor stayed around the area, hunting and training together, until Farran was almost two years old. The two of them split up after that and Farran began on the search for a new pack.
